Responsible Gambling

Last reviewed: June 2025

is committed to providing a casino environment that is safe, transparent and enjoyable. We believe that gambling should always remain a form of entertainment freely chosen by informed adults. This page sets out our commitment to responsible gambling, the tools available to every guest, and guidance on where to turn for additional support.

1. Adult-Only Access

Entry to all gaming areas at Quorenda Lodge is strictly restricted to adults. In accordance with our house policy, the minimum permitted age to enter or participate in any form of gambling at our casino is 21 years of age. This requirement applies without exception to all guests, regardless of membership status or mode of entry.

Our team members are trained to verify the age of any person who appears to be under the required age. Accepted forms of identification include a current Australian passport, a current Australian or international driver licence bearing a photograph, a current proof-of-age card issued by an Australian state or territory authority, or another government-issued photo identity document. Guests who are unable to provide satisfactory identification will be respectfully declined entry to gaming areas.

If you are aware of a person under 21 years of age attempting to access our gaming facilities, please notify a member of our team immediately. We take underage access extremely seriously and will act swiftly on every report.

2. Keeping Play Entirely Optional

Gambling at Quorenda Lodge is always a matter of personal choice. We do not apply pressure, incentives or social encouragement to prompt any guest to gamble, to spend beyond their intended limits or to continue playing beyond the point at which they wish to stop.

We ask that you approach our casino floor with a clear decision in mind:

  • Decide in advance how much money you are prepared to spend and treat that amount as the full cost of your entertainment for the session.
  • Decide in advance how long you intend to play and commit to leaving when that time arrives.
  • Never gamble with funds that are set aside for household expenses, rent, bills, repayments or other essential commitments.
  • Never borrow money for the purpose of gambling.
  • Understand that all casino games are designed so that the house holds a mathematical advantage over time. Winning is never guaranteed, and past outcomes have no bearing on future results.
  • Treat any winnings as a bonus, not as expected income or a reason to increase your spend.

3. Time and Spending Limits

Setting clear personal limits before you begin is the single most effective step you can take to keep gambling enjoyable. We actively encourage every guest to use the following strategies.

3.1 Spending Limits

  • Session budget. Determine a fixed amount you are comfortable losing before you enter the gaming floor. Once that amount is spent, end your session.
  • Daily and weekly budgets. If you visit more than once, maintain a running total across all sessions. Keep a simple note on your phone or in a notebook.
  • No top-ups. Resist the urge to withdraw additional funds once your session budget is exhausted. Committing to this rule in advance makes it easier to follow in the moment.

3.2 Time Limits

  • Set an alarm. Use the alarm function on your mobile phone or wear a watch so that you receive an objective reminder when your intended session time has elapsed.
  • Take regular breaks. Step away from gaming machines and tables at regular intervals. Breaks allow you to reassess how you feel, check in with your budget and make a calm, deliberate decision about whether to continue.
  • Avoid extended sessions. Fatigue and emotional states can impair judgement. Shorter, planned sessions are more consistent with gambling for entertainment.

3.3 Requesting Assistance with Limits

Guests who would like assistance with establishing personal limits or who wish to discuss the tools available to them are welcome to speak privately with a member of our Responsible Gambling team. Our team members are available on the casino floor at all times and can be identified by their lanyards. Requests for a private conversation will always be accommodated discreetly.

4. Recognising Changes in Gambling Behaviour

For most people, gambling remains recreational. For some, however, it can begin to feel less like entertainment and more like a compulsion. Becoming aware of changes in your own behaviour — or in that of someone close to you — is an important step. The following are common indicators that gambling may be moving beyond a leisure activity:

Area of Life Signs Worth Reflecting On
Financial Spending more than originally planned; using money set aside for everyday needs; selling possessions or borrowing in order to gamble; chasing losses in an attempt to recover money spent.
Time Gambling for longer than intended on a regular basis; arriving earlier or staying later than planned; difficulty stepping away when a session has run over.
Emotional Feeling irritable or restless when not gambling; gambling to escape stress, boredom or difficult feelings; feeling guilty or secretive about the amount of time or money spent.
Social and Work Reduced interest in activities previously enjoyed; withdrawing from family or friends; neglecting work, study or household responsibilities because of gambling.
Relationships Arguments about money or time; being less than honest with those close to you about how much you gamble; borrowing from family or friends without disclosing the purpose.

If any of the above resonates with your own experience, we encourage you to speak with a member of our Responsible Gambling team, contact a support service, or discuss your concerns with a trusted person in your life. Recognising a change is a sign of awareness, not weakness, and help is available.

5. Taking Breaks

Quorenda Lodge actively supports and encourages regular breaks from gambling activity. A break does not need to be lengthy to be effective. Stepping away from the gaming floor for even a short period can help you:

  • Reconnect with how you are feeling physically and emotionally.
  • Review how much time and money has been spent against your intended limits.
  • Make a calm, deliberate choice about whether to continue, reduce your activity or end your session.
  • Reframe gambling as one part of an enjoyable stay at Quorenda Lodge, not the sole focus of the visit.

Our team members will never discourage a guest from taking a break or leaving the gaming floor. Should you wish to return, our facilities remain available to eligible adults throughout our advertised opening hours.

6. Self-Exclusion at Quorenda Lodge

Self-exclusion is a formal arrangement by which a guest requests that Quorenda Lodge restrict their access to our casino facilities for a defined period. It is one of the most meaningful steps a person can take to create space and reduce harm.

6.1 How to Apply

Any adult guest may apply for self-exclusion at any time by speaking directly with a member of our Responsible Gambling team or by submitting a written request to our management office. You may also submit your request by electronic mail to info@quorendalodge.com, clearly stating your request for self-exclusion and including your full name and a contact address for correspondence.

6.2 Exclusion Periods

Quorenda Lodge offers the following self-exclusion periods:

Period Duration
Short-term 3 months
Medium-term 6 months
Long-term 12 months
Indefinite Ongoing until a formal revocation request is assessed

6.3 What Self-Exclusion Covers

Once a self-exclusion is registered, Quorenda Lodge will:

  • Decline entry to gaming areas to the excluded person for the duration of the exclusion period.
  • Remove the excluded person from all direct marketing and promotional communications relating to our gaming facilities.
  • Retain a record of the exclusion for as long as it remains active and for a reasonable period thereafter, consistent with our Privacy Policy.

Self-exclusion covers all casino gaming areas within the Quorenda Lodge property. It does not automatically extend to other gaming venues or platforms beyond our property.

6.4 Revocation of Self-Exclusion

Requests to revoke or reduce a self-exclusion will not be processed before the minimum exclusion period has elapsed. After that period, a written revocation request may be submitted, and the matter will be considered by our management team. A cooling-off period will apply before any revocation takes effect, to ensure the request is made with considered intent.

6.5 Breaches

If an excluded person attempts to enter our gaming areas, we reserve the right to refuse entry and, where necessary, to engage the appropriate authorities. We ask friends, family and colleagues of excluded persons to support the exclusion by not facilitating access on their behalf.

7. Support from Trusted Contacts

Concern about a friend's, partner's or family member's gambling can be a source of significant distress. If someone close to you is showing signs that their gambling has moved beyond recreation, the following steps may help:

  • Choose a calm moment. Raise the subject at a time when neither of you is stressed or under pressure. Avoid discussing it immediately after a gambling session.
  • Speak from a place of care. Use language that expresses your concern for the person rather than making accusations. Focusing on specific observations — such as changes in mood or finances — is often more effective than general statements.
  • Listen as well as speak. Give the person space to respond without interruption. They may be more aware of the issue than they have previously indicated.
  • Offer to help explore support options together. You do not need to have all the answers. Offering to accompany someone to a support appointment or to help them locate a resource can make a significant difference.
  • Set boundaries for yourself. Protecting your own wellbeing is not selfish. You cannot compel another person to change, but you can establish clear boundaries around what you are and are not prepared to do.
  • Contact us. If you are concerned about a guest at our property, you are welcome to raise the matter with our Responsible Gambling team. We will handle all such enquiries discreetly and with sensitivity.

8. Responsible Gambling Support and Resources

Quorenda Lodge operates in Australia and encourages guests who are concerned about their own gambling — or that of someone they know — to seek support through local channels. In Australia, state and territory governments, as well as the national consumer regulator, publish guidance on responsible gambling practices, oversee complaint-handling processes, and make information available about exclusion schemes and community support pathways.

We encourage guests to:

  • Contact their relevant state or territory authority for information about locally administered self-exclusion registers, which may extend access restrictions across multiple venues in Queensland.
  • Approach community and social services in the Cairns region for referral to peer support, financial counselling and non-clinical guidance.
  • Speak with a trusted person in their life — a friend, family member or someone in their community whose judgement they trust.
  • Contact our Responsible Gambling team at Quorenda Lodge at any time by visiting the gaming floor or writing to us at info@quorendalodge.com.

Support is available, and taking a first step — even simply seeking information — is worthwhile. You do not need to be certain that a problem exists in order to seek guidance.

9. Our Ongoing Commitment

trains all team members who work in or adjacent to gaming areas to recognise the signs of distress, to approach guests with sensitivity and to refer individuals to our Responsible Gambling team or to external support in an appropriate and dignified manner.

We review our responsible gambling practices regularly to ensure they reflect current guidance and the genuine needs of our guests. We welcome feedback on how our practices can be improved. Feedback may be submitted in writing to our management office at the address below, or by electronic mail to info@quorendalodge.com.

Nothing in this page limits any right a guest may have under applicable Australian consumer protection legislation or other applicable law.
